Mining capability · SHEQ · Risk · Leadership and behaviour

Competent people. Safer operations.

Comodex builds the technical, leadership and behavioural capability that mining and industrial operations depend on — from the shop floor to the boardroom. Over 100 programmes, delivered in-company, built around your risks and your people.

The problem we solve

Two gaps that are actually one problem

Mid-tier operators carry the full weight of the Mine Health and Safety Act and the OHS Act with none of the internal capacity of a major. Contractors carry it twice: constant churn, and a competence case to prove to every principal employer they serve.

The readiness gap

Universities produce mining engineers, metallurgists and geologists with strong theory and almost no exposure to an operating shaft. You absorb that as low first-year productivity, graduate attrition and elevated incident risk among inexperienced staff.

  • Mining Operations Management (MOM) Programme
  • Mine Captain Development Programme
  • Equine Assisted Learning & Development (EALD)
  • Mine Mentor Exchange Programme (MMEP)
  • Behavioural assessment with Shadowmatch & SkillsGrid

The evidence gap

The law requires you to demonstrate that every person performing a task is competent to perform it. Most operators can produce a filing cabinet, not a live, auditable record — and when something goes wrong, that distinction becomes the whole case.

  • HIRA / HIRAC and baseline risk assessment
  • Legal liability, levels 1 to 4
  • Incident analysis, JSA, planned task observations
  • SHE Rep, SHE awareness, OHS Rep skills programme
  • ISO management systems: awareness and implementation

These are usually bought from separate suppliers — a recruiter, a training provider, a risk consultant — none of whom is accountable for the outcome. Joined together they become a single investment that survives the budget cycle, because it is at once a productivity gain and a legal necessity. See the six ways clients engage us →

Common questions

Frequently asked

What training does Comodex offer?

More than 100 programmes across four catalogues: mining development programmes, SHEQ and risk courses, ISO management systems, and soft-skills workshops. They run from one-day awareness sessions to a 15-day OHS Rep skills programme.

Where do you deliver training?

In-company, on your site, using your risks, your procedures and your own incidents as the material. We are based in Pretoria, Gauteng, with operations across South Africa, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Botswana.

Can courses be customised for our operation?

Yes — it is what most clients actually buy. We adapt course components or combine several courses into one integrated programme, built around your operation, your risks and the levels you need to reach.
