Mining capability
Mining programmes
Development programmes built for mining operations — from the team leader on the face to the general manager. Technical competence, leadership and behaviour, addressed together rather than separately.
Mining Operations Management (MOM) Programme
The MOM Programme is Comodex’s flagship development programme, designed to build competent, accountable and safety-driven leaders. It combines technical training, leadership development and behavioural assessment to equip supervisors and middle managers to lead productive, compliant and people-focused operations.
- Classroom learning, workplace assignments and a final board examination
- Participants demonstrate application in real mining contexts, not just recall
- Shadowmatch and SkillsGrid assessment gives measurable growth in technical and leadership competence
- Aimed at supervisors and middle managers

Equine Assisted Learning and Development (EALD)
EALD is an experiential approach that uses guided interaction with horses — without riding — to develop leadership, communication, trust and emotional intelligence. Horses respond instinctively to human behaviour, which gives participants immediate and honest feedback about their leadership style, their boundaries and their effect on other people.
- Built for teams and leaders in high-pressure environments such as mining and healthcare
- Practical activity, structured reflection and facilitated coaching
- Develops self-awareness, teamwork and authentic leadership
- Runs as a standalone intervention or inside a longer programme

Mine Captain Development Programme
A structured development programme for Mine Captains and front-line mining leaders, delivered on the mine, on surface, inside the shift cycle. It exists because classroom programmes for this level routinely fail — not through weak content, but because attendance collapses under production pressure and nothing from the session survives contact with the next shift. Three levers address exactly that.
- Ownership. The mandate is issued and signed by the Mine Managers, not by Comodex. A manager opens every session, and attendance is reported by the line at the production meeting
- Logistics. A fixed calendar published up front, dates that do not move, a standing alternate nominated by every Captain, and reminders from the manager’s office at seven days and one day
- Relevance. Content built on the Captains’ own three worst recurring operational headaches, one per session, each closing with a written commitment reviewed in front of peers a fortnight later
- Currently in delivery on client operations in the platinum sector

Mine Mentor Exchange Programme (MMEP)
MMEP bridges the gap between academia and the mining industry, preparing students and graduates to become workplace-ready professionals. It runs in partnership with the mining departments at the University of Johannesburg, the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Pretoria.
- Site visits, mock mine simulations and workshops
- Mentorship from industry experts
- Coaching on workplace behaviour, communication and career readiness
- Supported by industry partners and sponsors

Tell us the problem. We will design the programme.
Every Comodex engagement starts with an exploratory conversation — no cost, no obligation. We look at your risks, your levels and your operating reality, then propose the programme that fits.
