Who we are
About Comodex
Comodex combines academic and practical competence with the objectivity and impartiality expected of a professional service.
Welcome
“True transformation happens through doing, not listening.”
What sets us apart is our commitment to experiential learning. Our programmes go beyond theoretical knowledge, providing practical exercises and simulations that let you apply what you learn in real situations — so the knowledge is not only retained, it is usable on Monday morning.
With over three decades of expertise in organisational and mining skills development, our team exists to give you the tools and insight to excel individually and as part of a team. Let us guide you through experiences that empower you to lead and succeed.
Tanya Graham, Chief Executive Officer
Built on people who have done the job
For more than thirty years Comodex has established itself as one of the thought leaders in safety, risk management and skills development services. Members of our consulting team have practical experience in industrial management and risk control roles, and hold tertiary or other relevant qualifications. That combination is deliberate: it lets us give appropriate advice across a broad range of occupational risk management disciplines, rather than reciting a standard back to the people who have to live with it.
Our strength lies in our diversity, our combined knowledge and experience, and a commitment to doing the work properly.

The people
Who you will actually be dealing with
Comodex is not a large organisation, and that is deliberate. The people who design the programme are the people who deliver it.

Tanya Graham
Chief Executive Officer
Leadership development, with a background in equine assisted learning and development. Founder of Mine Mentor SA, the graduate readiness pipeline. Tanya opens the conversations that matter — at CEO, board, investor and industry-body level — and leads the behavioural side of the work.

Arrie Graham
Chief Operating Officer
Occupational risk management, safety and production improvement systems, off an operations management background. Arrie brings the systems-and-structure lens, and is usually the one talking to the SHEQ manager and the operations team.

Adriaan Graham
Chief Product Officer
Decides what the leadership and personal-development side of Comodex actually offers, and why. Developed the Equine Assisted Learning and Development methodology in 2007 and has practised it for nearly two decades — if your leaders spend a day with the horses, this is the thinking behind it.
Programmes are delivered by a wider bench of facilitators and assessors, all with practical experience in industrial management and risk control roles, and tertiary or other relevant qualifications. You will be told who is running your programme before it starts, not on the day.
Our service policy
Our aim is the implementation and continual improvement of best-practice approaches inside client organisations, with a professional presence as close as possible to the point of delivery. Comodex is committed to service quality and treats quality concepts and systems as a major contributor to that, not as an add-on.
Our focus is always on the client. We recognise that clients need:
- Leading, practical risk management consulting services
- Timely service delivery
- Access to competent staff
- Support that encourages self-sufficient risk management
Within our markets we intend to be the pre-eminent supplier of risk management services and products, distinguished by innovation and quality. We achieve that by building an operating environment based on teamwork, cooperation and mutual respect between everyone involved.
A needs-driven organisation
Our training products and services cover all industry sectors. We hold a range of off-the-shelf programmes, but our real strength is adapting them — customisation is what most clients actually buy.
Specialised products and services include certification services, business improvement and development, management of change, fatal risk management and behaviour interventions. Feasibility studies and mining-specific disciplines such as ventilation engineering are offered through our associations and partnerships. Contractor management strategy and custom-designed contractor programmes are something we are known for internationally.
If we do not have it, we will find it. If we cannot find it, we will design it.
Questions we get asked
Frequently asked
What training do you offer?
Four catalogues: mining and leadership programmes, SHEQ and risk courses, ISO management systems, and soft-skills workshops. Together that is more than 100 programmes, from one-day awareness sessions to a 15-day OHS Rep skills programme.
Where does the training take place?
Most of our work is in-company — we deliver on your site, using your risks, your procedures and your incidents as the material. Equine assisted learning runs at a dedicated facility. We work across South Africa, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Botswana.
Can the material be customised?
Yes, and usually it is. We can modify course components or combine two or more courses into one integrated programme. Sensitive or commercially competitive information can be used in the material without leaving the room.
How do you measure whether it worked?
Formative assessment during each lesson, group exercise evaluation, a written assessment after every chapter, and a closing case study in which the group builds a real improvement plan for their own workplace. Delegates who complete successfully receive a certificate.
What group sizes do you work with?
Most courses run best with 10 to 15 delegates. Larger intakes are split into cohorts so the practical work stays meaningful.
Is there follow-up after the training?
Yes. The training programme manager carries out a review after delivery to confirm your needs were met — the full cycle is set out in how we work. Coaching, mentoring and system support can continue beyond the classroom.
Which industries do you work with?
Mining is our home ground, but the SHEQ, risk, ISO and soft-skills catalogues apply across manufacturing, construction, engineering and the public sector. Our client base runs from small operations to blue-chip companies.
Tell us the problem. We will design the programme.
Every Comodex engagement starts with an exploratory conversation — no cost, no obligation. We look at your risks, your levels and your operating reality, then propose the programme that fits.
